The Farne Islands are a vital stronghold for seabirds, especially Atlantic puffins. Amongst the flurry of wings and vocal calls, a vivid, multicoloured beak crammed with glistening sand eels and an unexpected trailing piece of seaweed caught my attention. This unknown adversary was likely snagged during the hunt for food, but the puffin’s priorities were clear: it needed to keep the seaweed to prevent losing the catch. Luckily, the puffin came closer to my lens; this allowed me to capture the beauty at eye level and to reveal in sharp detail the intricate facial details and expressions that make the puffin my personal favourite out of all the seabirds.
